A Few Critical Items/Reminders for Palmer Families:

Please help us to ensure our school is safe and welcoming by adhering to the following procedures:

    • Students must not arrive prior to 8:30 a.m., and must leave school grounds by 3:50 p.m. unless participating in a school activity.
    • Supervision for students is only provided between 8:30 am and 3:50 pm  Breakfast is served 8:30 am – 8:55 am.
    • All visitors to the school, including parents, must sign in at the front office before proceeding to classrooms or other areas.
    • Positive behavior is critical to learning and to school safety, and is expected at Palmer.  A common discipline system is used throughout the school to help students make good choices.  Please direct any questions concerning Palmer Pride or our Time to Teach program to your child's teacher.

    Academics and Scheduling:

Students will receive a tentative classroom assignment at registration.  Most students will remain in these assignments for the duration of the school year.  However, please be aware of these possibilities:

    • All students will be assessed in literacy and math during the first weeks of school.  Assessment results could indicate that a particular child’s needs would be better met in another classroom.
    • Some students may have a teacher other than their homeroom teacher for literacy and/or math to facilitate needs-based grouping.  A child’s literacy and/or math teacher may change during the year.
    • Occasionally, class reassignments are necessary when class loads become imbalanced.  These moves will be avoided whenever possible.

    Communication:

The partnership between home and school is critical to student success.  Please know that we welcome your involvement, input, and most of all your support of your student.

    • Friday Folders will be sent home every Friday except those just prior to a school vacation.  These folders will contain information from the teacher about your child’s progress, and also important information about school procedures and events.  It is crucial that you read the contents of each Friday Folder, sign the form from the teacher, and return it the following Monday.
    • If you are interested in a conference with any school personnel, please make an appointment through the main office (303) 388-5929.
    • Parent involvment is a vital component of our school.  There are many ways to be involved during the school day, after school, or even in the evening at your own home.  Please contact your child’s teacher to find out how you can help.  Two important parent groups are the PTA (Parent/Teacher Association), which provides support for school projects and activities; and the CSC (Collaborative School Committee) which serves as an accountability board.  Please consider participating in one of these groups.
