Dear Palmer community,
On Thursday, Nov. 7, as part of the Denver Schools Thrive Initiative, and using direction from Executive Limitation 18 (EL-18), our school was recommended by the superintendent as a school that could close and become part of a new enrollment zone.
On Thursday, Nov. 21 the Board of Education voted to approve this recommendation. This means that Palmer will close at the end of the 2024-25 school year.
A Denver School Thrives Toolkit for Palmer is available here and includes information about what this means for our school community, resources, and contact information to support us during this difficult time.
Enrollment Zones and SchoolChoice
As a result of the closure, families will have priority as a part of a new enrollment zone. Families will also have the opportunity to participate in the SchoolChoice process to select the school that they feel best fits their student’s unique needs and aspirations. SchoolChoice Round 1 application window opens on Jan. 15, 2025, at 10 a.m. and will remain open through Feb. 18, 2025, at 4 p.m. Learn more about SchoolChoice here.
Next Steps
Staff members from the Family and Community Engagement (FACE) team will be assigned to our school and will be working with families at our school to support us through closure. Every school will have an engagement meeting scheduled before Dec. 21. We’ll reach out to let you know when our meeting is scheduled.
Please contact me with any questions.
Sincerely,Palmer Elementary
Principal, Dawn Salter
